BWC Committee - 2021

President:
Secretary and Communications:  Michelle McGoldrick
Treasurer and Web Designer:  Steven McCullough

General Committee Members: Penny Davies

Bendigo Writers' Council is run by a small volunteer committee endeavouring to bring together all those that share an interest in the writing industry, whether they desire to be a professional writer or simply write for their own enjoyment.

The committee do this by organising a wide variety of industry experts to hold workshops once per month. The speaker will delve deep into their specialised topic, be available to answer questions and set out a small task for all those attending.

President:

All committee positions are available at our next AGM.

Secretary and Communications: Michelle McGoldrick

Michelle loved the feel, the smell and the world of books from an early age. With a varied background in writing for media, she is currently deputy editor and feature writer for an online music publication.

Studying Media and Literature at Swinburne and La Trobe University, Michelle went on to freelance or volunteer her time in any medium that required a good yarn: arts and music publicity, scriptwriting, interviews for radio and community television, and feature-writing.

Michelle is a strong advocate for women writers in music and the arts. Being a nomad at heart, she also forays into travel writing sometimes.

Treasurer and Web Design: Steve McCullough

Between work and family commitments, Steve likes to deceive himself that he has time to write. After keeping "the cyber" secure during the day, sometimes malevolent stars align and dark thoughts percolate; steeping sinuously onto a virtual page.

Beyond considering CBT to ensure the placement of only one space after a full stop instead of two, Steve explores fiction-writing fundamentals and practical writing wisdom.

His more coherent musings, interspersed with existential objections to decaffeinated coffee, can be found within the Twitterverse
@WriteItSteve.

Committee: Penny Davies

After six years as Secretary of BWC Penny has stepped back into a mentoring role on the 2021 committee. A member of Writers Victoria, the Fellowship of Australian Writers [Victoria] and the Australian Society of Authors whose mantra is Advocacy, Support and Advice, Penny brings this practice to her involvement with BWC.

An institutional historian Penny has a PhD from La Trobe University and is widely published in historical anthologies and journals; continuing to focus on non-fiction genre. Penny, who holds an Honorary Associate’s position affiliated to the Head of Bendigo Campus Office at La Trobe University, is involved in philanthropy and a diverse range of community boards and committees.

Penny received an AM in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
